Ram of the Match – Kai Allsop
Two second-half goals from Adrian Axande saw Reading progress to the semi-final of the Berks and Bucks cup.
It was a professional, well-drilled performance from Noel Hunt’s young charges that had The Rams chasing shadows for the greater part of the 90 minutes.
That said, the home side were not without chances, Elliott Buchanan saw his first-half effort ruled out for Offiside, while Sam Togwell narrowly missed a loose ball in the six-yard box which Coniah Boyce-Clarke just managed to fall on before The Rams defender could poke it home.
Even after the visitors took the Lead in the 53rd minute, debutant Kai Allsop capped his encouraging full debut with a close-range effort which produced a brilliant reflex save from Coniah Boyce-Clarke. Who stuck out a leg and got enough of a deflection to turn the low shot wide of the post.
From that point though the goalkeeping heroics were all performed by Ravan Constable in The Rams goal, who produced a string of excellent saves as the visitors threatened at will.
Gary Meakin’s young side battled to the end and gave everything in the cause but it just wasn't their night. Once they were in front, Reading controlled possession and dominated proceedings with precise passing and movement and a work rate that didn’t diminish from first whistle to last. Running out deserved winners on the night.
On this evidence, it will be a very good team that stops them from retaining their title.
