Beaconsfield progressed to the second round of the Berks & Bucks FA Senior Cup with a narrow win over Aylesbury United.
In a match played in persistent rain, it was hard for either side to really get their game going. Aapart from a shot from The Ducks' Jamie Jellis on nine minutes, the only real action of note came on 33 minutes when the in-form Andre Costa went on a mazy run and set up Dan Brown to poke home his first goal for The Rams.
The second period was equally lacking in quality, though an almost comical own goal by The Ducks on 66 minutes – a defender chipping keeper Michael Chalmers! – did at least give the very wet crowd something to laugh about. In fairness Aylesbury did shade the second half and had a lot of possession, but never forced Rams keeper Jamie Norris into having to make any saves of note.
A clean sheet, a third win on the trot, progress to the next round of the County Cup, and a much needed ninety minutes for the likes of Mitch Gutteridge, Kofi Lockhart-Adams, Callum Mapley, Dan Brown and AJ were all positives to take from the game, but it’s doubtful there will be much demand for a DVD of the highlights!
In the next few weeks, Beaconsfield can concentrate on the League - Come On You Rams!
