Rams Man Of The Match: ALEX CATHLINE
Beaconsfield and Bedford may have beaten the freezing weather at Holloways Park but they couldn’t beat each others keepers and on the balance of play a draw was a fair result.
Bedford are the divisions “form team” at the moment and they were full of attacking intent though rarely seriously troubled Ravan Constable in the early exchanges. The first Rams chance of note came on 18 minutes when Michael Peacock saw his glancing header tipped over by Kyle Forster. Five minutes later Peacock was clearing off his own line to keep out a strike by the Eagles Lee Roache. Constable then had to be alert to keep out a shot by David Manu whilst just before half time a breakaway by The Rams nearly earned new signing Kezxie Ibe a debut goal but his header hit the post.
The second period saw an early Andre Costa effort sail wide whilst a scramble in The Rams box on the hour mark could have resulted in an Eagles strike but the ball was eventually cleared. Both sides then had periods of possession and pressure but no real penetrating strikes though sub Tre Mitford did see a flicked effort on 86 minutes frantically cleared by Forster.
The last minute, however, brought the games real moment of controversy. As a Rams attack was cleared the Eagles Ollie Swift kicked out at Mitford. Ref Jack Bloxham consulted with his assistant but instead of awarding the expected penalty and a red card to Swift he dismissed Mitford – what for, who knows – and then the Bedford No.5 followed him down the tunnel. Even Bedford were puzzled by this!
In truth both sides could have nicked a victory but neither really did enough to deserve it. In difficult conditions it’s another point earned that both teams will be grateful for and one that keeps The Rams in second spot.
Come On You Rams!
