Rams Up to Fourth

BEACONSFIELD TOWN 1                     SWINDON SUPERMARINE 0

RAMS MAN OF THE MATCH:  Brendan Matthew

Beaconsfield Town extended their unbeaten League run to eight games and moved up to fourth place in the table after a hard fought victory over a determined Swindon Supermarine side who will feel aggrieved that they never went home with at least a point.

A relatively even first period saw opportunities come and go for both sides – Brendan Matthew saw a great chance go begging on 13 minutes whilst Swindon’s Matthew Williams forced a good save out of Rams custodian Ravan Constable on 21 minutes. A 27th minute header by Reece Yorke then found the head of Tony Mendy but his effort went mere inches wide whilst a shot by the visitors Ryan Campbell on 37 minutes again forced a decent save out of Constable.

The start of the second half saw Louis Stead have two good efforts on goal, a 49th minute shot that went wide and a 52nd minute effort that required a fine save by the visitors Kevin Sawyer. Swindon’s captain Stuart Fleetwood and sub Brad Gray saw a couple of efforts go flying across the face of The Rams goal around the hour mark before Beaconsfield struck what turned out to be the one and only goal on 67 minutes. Tony Mendy, Charlie Losasso and Brendan Matthew all exchanged headers on the edge of the Swindon area before Matthew showed a turn of pace,  quick feet and calm head to slot the ball past a despairing Sawyer, a fine finish indeed and the third in three games for the in-form striker.

The Rams were indebted to Constable in the dying minutes as he made a stunning save to deny a goal bound effort from Fleetwood whilst a late free kick was headed in to the side netting by Matthew Coupe as Beaconsfield hung on for the victory.

Once again The Rams were not ‘firing on all cylinders’ but they still did enough to grind out a

positive result and to do that when not playing well is indeed the mark of a good team. There’s plenty more to come from this group of players.

Come On You Rams!
