Rams Man Of The Match: TONY MENDY
Beaconsfield returned from the long day out to Dorset with three deserved points and could have had a much bigger margin of victory if they had taken more of their many chances.
In bright sunshine it was the home side who shaded the early exchanges without really forcing Rams No.1 Ravan Constable into any saves of note. For the visitors, the lively Tony Mendy nearly took advantage of a poor 25th minute back pass but his curled effort went just the wrong side of the Wimborne post. With clear cut chances for either side something of a rarity, however, the scoreboard operator at the quaint Cuthbury ground wasn’t required in the first half.
The Rams came out for the second period on the front foot and nearly took the lead on 49 minutes when Louis Stead sent a fierce shot just over. Sixty seconds later they did go in front as an in inch perfect free kick from Captain Wes Daly found the unmarked Jordan Ajanlekoko and AJ powered his header past Gerard Benfield in The Magpies goal.
The visitors then looked dangerous almost every time they went forward. Alex Cathline flashed an effort across the face of goal on the hour mark and two minutes later really should have scored when he danced through the home defence but delayed his final shot and the effort was cleared. Tony Mendy also saw a couple of highly presentable chances go begging, one in the 73rd minute bringing a fine reflex save out of Benfield.
Across the whole team The Rams competed strongly and solidly, the back four marshaled well by Reece Yorke and Jerome Eccleston, Wes Daly constantly ‘nicking’ the ball in midfield and Mendy a menace to the home defence. Another good win on the road and a good confidence booster before the up and coming Emirates F.A. Cup game.
