SIX ON THE SPIN WITH ASHFORD WIN FOR THE RAMS!

BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 2 ASHFORD TOWN (MIDDX) 0

Beaconsfield SYCOB extended their unbeaten run to 12 games in all competitions with a hard fought and industrious win over basement side Ashford Town.

In a game that never really caught fire, SYCOB completed another double of the season against the Ash Tree Men who's performance masked their true position in the table.

Both sides started brightly with The Rams finding their rhythm early on and creating a couple of chances from excellent crosses coming in from the right though it wasn't all one way traffic as Ashford also created some half chances to keep the Beaconsfield defence on their toes.

On 34 minutes, however, after a needless free-kick had been conceded by Ashford just inside their own half, Craig Carby sent in a dangerous cross which Zak Joseph met on the far post to finish with a crisp volley into the Ashford net.

The goal seemed to settle The Rams down and they started to play some good possession football and hoping to secure their second goal - on 40 minutes after some good swift passing play the ball was fed through to Jon-Jo Bates who's fierce shot cannoned off the Ashford Town cross bar and just before the break Kofi Lockhart-Adams had a good effort well saved by the Ashford keeper Topin.

At half-time Ashford replaced Ben Ewing with Chris McConnell in an attempt to get back into the game and stem the threat of Nathan Webb who was causing their defence all sorts of problems. However SYCOB still looked like extending their lead and on 55 minutes after some neat one-two football the ball was played through to Kofi Lockhart-Adams who burst into the penalty box only to be up-ended for a stone-wall penalty. Most of the crowd were amazed that no red or even yellow card was issued to Ashford's Scott Weight for the challenge. Up stepped Zak Joseph to smash in the spot kick and settle the nerves of the home supporters.

With most people thinking the match was as good as over Ashford upped their game as SYCOB took their foot off the pedal and they created two or three good chances which produced fine saves by James Reading in the Rams goal and also one goal line clearance by Brad Hewitt.

On the whole though SYCOB were in total control and on another day could have extended their lead further but for some poor finishing and solid goal keeping by Topin. They secured all three points without really getting out of first gear but at this time of the season, with pitches on the heavy side, playing sides fighting for their lives can some times be harder than playing teams at the top of the table. Our next visitors, North Greenford United could be the same and after that The Rams embark on fixtures against three sides who have big aspirations of winning the league.
