It wasn't only England who had an important game on Tuesday, SYCOB had an away tie at Thatcham Town in the Red Insure Cup and like the Three Lions The Rams came away victorious!
As is the norm for Beaconsfield in recent games the team started strongly and created some good early half chances, Brian Haule going close on five minutes after some good work by debutant Jack Hutchinson as an example. On 23 minutes the pressure told when SYCOB were awarded a penalty after a shove in the box - Wayne O'Sullivan converted with a little help from the right post and he then went on to have his best game yet in a Rams shirt, putting in a couple of lovely crosses that really should have brought more goals though one that was met perfectly by AJ was met with an equally great save by Thatcham keeper Ashley West.
Goal No.2 for SYCOB came in the 32nd minute when Aaron Lansiquot picked the ball up outside the Thatcham area and then let fly for the perfect shot which flew past West at a rate of knots. Half time came with Beaconsfield 2-0 but if it had been four or five Thatcham could have had no complaints.
SYCOB remained on top in the early stages of the second half and only some resolute Thatcham defending was keeping the score down. Brian Haule, Jack Hutchinson and Aaron Lansiquot all had presentable chances but it was Nathan Webb who eventually put the ball in the net when, in the 71st minute, he shot through a crowded area and past an unsighted West.
Thatcham - led by ex-Beaconsfield goal machine Yashwa Romeo - offered little threat to SYCOB and the only surprise is that The Rams only scored 3. Jack Hutchinson looks to be a pretty good recruit, O'Sullivan hopefully will begin to show more of the talent he obviously has and it was great to see Yads back and marshalling the defence.
