TROPHY HORROR SHOW FOR SYCOB

BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 0 FAVERSHAM TOWN 4

SYCOB's interest in the 2014/15 FA Trophy came to an abrupt end at the hands of a well organised and solid Faversham Town side - the fact that Rams keeper Sam Bunting was the home side's man of the match shows just how comprehensive the defeat was.

As early as the second minute a mix up in SYCOB's central defence gifted Renford Tenyue the chance to slot past Bunting and the next twenty minutes saw The Rams custodian deny The Lillywhites on numerous occasions. He could do nothing about Faversham's second goal however, a ball over the top of the SYCOB defence which Dean Grant ran onto to blast the shot home. The fact it was 31 minutes before SYCOB had a (scuffed) shot on goal showed the dominance of Faversham as The Rams struggled to get a foothold in the game though they nearly scored just before half time when some good build up play saw Lee Thompson get a header on target though it failed to trouble Simon Overland.

The second half saw a much improved performance by the home team and Jon Munday went close with a header from a Johnny Gray cross on 55 minutes whilst sixty seconds later Tom Gant tested Overland with a well struck shot. Captain Lee Togwell also had a decent attempt on 60 minutes but just three minutes after that, following a fine save by Bunting, the ball bounced kindly for Jamie Muxted who put his header away and his team three goals to the good.

The 70th minute saw Faversham awarded a penalty after a foul by Togwell but Botterill's kick was saved by Buntings legs and the keeper was again at his best on 75 minutes to deny a good effort by Jack Harris. Aaron Berry for The Rams did have a decent attempt on 87 minutes but the rout was confirmed on 90 minutes when George Monger curled  a beauty past Bunting.

Another heavy home defeat for SYCOB and the second Cup exit in a week. Much better performances from everyone are going to be needed if the side is to get off the bottom of the table and there is no better time to turn it around than with the home double header against Rugby Town and Godalming Town.
