UNBEATEN RUN ENDED BY DUCKS!

AYLESBURY UNITED 2 BEACONSFIELD SYCOB 0

SYCOB's unbeaten league run of thirteen matches that stretched all the way back to the first week of November finally came to a halt at Bell Close to a strong, well organised and determined Aylesbury United side who, on this form, could make a late surge for the Play Offs in one of the most hotly contested Central Division seasons for years.

In truth The Rams were rarely in the game - it was 17 minutes before they mustered a shot on target by which time The Ducks could have been two up but for some woeful finishing. Jon Jo Bates, Brian Haule and Reece Yorke all had shots but Jack Stillitoe in the United goal wasn't forced into any sort of meaningful save.

Aylesbury United on the other hand had mastered the tricky playing surface and looked threatening every time they went forward, winning nearly all the loose balls and getting more than their fair share of the rub of the green (or maybe that should be rub of the mud!).They had a shot cleared off the SYCOB line in the 40th minute and eventually made the breakthrough on the stroke of half time when a poor header out of defence found it's way to Stacey Field and he made no mistake to put The Ducks a goal to the good.

The second half started in a similar fashion with United on the attack and The Rams on the back foot. The 53rd minute saw a Ducks shot cleared off the line whilst five minutes later an unchecked run by the live wire Zack Reynolds ended with the winger placing a fierce shot past James Reading. 2-0.

Manager Gary Meakin was sent to the stand in the 63rd minute and Craig Carby was sent off for a (debateable) second yellow on 85 minutes by which time Aylesbury had hit the SYCOB bar and James Reading had to make brilliant save to ensure The Ducks didn't further increase their lead.

An off night for sure - the playing surface didn't suit The Rams style of play but then neither did the pitches at Rugby or Barton. Just one of those games when nothing went right and as we haven't had too many of those this season it's not something to panic about. It's how the team respond that's important.
