Beaconsfield’s winless run was extended to 9 games as they lost 2-1 to Northwood.
Beaconsfield had an excellent start to the game, taking the lead within the first minute thanks to captain Ben Tricker’s goal, poking the ball home from a well taken corner. It looked like the start of a comfortable afternoon for The Rams against the leagues bottom placed side.
The Rams dominated the opening 15 minutes, with Josh Marcon’s effort saved by the Northwood number 1 to keep the score at 1-0.
Northwood began to find their feet in the game with half an hour played and snatched an equaliser in the 33rd minute through Godlove Oppong, with their first shot at goal. The game began to become scrappy and as they entered added time Northwood took the lead through Adeniyi Gbolahan who made the most of some poor defensive work from The Rams.
The second half started with plenty of work to do for Beaconsfield, but despite them making changes and pressing hard, there was no way through the Northwood defence.
Northwood tried to run the clock down taking as long as the referee would allow at every opportunity. Beaconsfield came close to an equaliser on a handful of occasions with notable efforts from Manu Oke – William, who headed just wide of the post, Maks Jarzabek, who saw his curling shot palmed away, before a spectacular overhead kick from youth team star Troy Williams flew inches wide of the post. Despite The Rams pressure Northwood held on till the final whistle to earn themselves their first win of the season.
The Rams now face a tough away trip to Hadley on Tuesday evening.
