Ram of the Match - Kyel Reid

Beaconsfield Town produced a second league win and a second league clean sheet in a row with a comfortable win over Yate Town whose struggles continue despite recording a confidence boosting 4-0 win over Plymouth Parkway last Tuesday night.

The Homeside’s cause was not helped when they lost Tom Richards, who limped off in the 19th minute. The loss was made even more severe when his replacement Calvin Dinsley lasted just 11 minutes and two challenges. The first, a calculated check on Eitel Goueth to snuff out a Beaconsfield break was a clear enough caution. Dinsley then unaccountably followed up with a bizarre, petulant hack from behind on Nathan Minhas to pick up the second yellow and accumulated Red.

His team were already up against it. As Beaconsfield had dominated the opening half-hour with Kyel Reid, in particular, bringing the best from Martin Horsell in the home goal on two occasions and Aaron Minhas somehow missing the target from 8 yards with the goal at his mercy. Whilst Ravan Constable at the other end was largely a spectator.

The home side's resistance finally gave in first-half injury time as Nathan Minhas reacted quickly when an Eitel Goueth effort rebounded from a blocking defender Minhas’s first-time shot from the edge of the box fizzed inside the post.

Half Time 0-1

The second half followed a similar pattern to the first. Beaconsfield dominated possession and tried to work their man advantage for all it was worth but their passing often lacked the necessary pace and precision. Yate battled away and never gave up but were unable to take any real advantage. The visitors were seldom troubled in open play. Yate's principal tactic seemed to be to get the ball forward directly and pick up set pieces in the final third.

They enjoyed some success but Liam McDevitt and Keano Robinson dealt well with the aerial threat of Alex Lambert and, Toby Raison and Pierce Mitchell stepping forward from central defence. With Birthday Boy, Sam Togwell and Aaron Mihas tidying up in front of them. The closest Yate came was a freekick from skipper Joseph Tumelty which deflected off the Beaconsfield wall causing Ravan Constable to spring to his right to turn the ball away for a corner.

Beaconsfield contented themselves with relying on the speed of substitute Dan Bradshaw and Goueth on the break to keep the Yate defence honest but for long periods their bench was beseeching them to move the ball more quickly to obtain full advantage from their extra man.

Yate defended manfully putting their bodies on the line, and blocking efforts from Nathan Minhas, Kyel Reid and Dan Bradshaw.

They held out until the 75th minute when The Rams finally moved the ball with pace and purpose and Nathan Minhas turned provider picking out Bradshaw beyond the far post.

Bradshaw’s well struck low shot from a narrow-angle went through Horsell. The keeper got enough on it to deflect it downwards but could not keep it out as the force on the shot carried the ball up off the turf and into the roof of the net.

Yate tried to rally but their heart was never really in it and Beaconsfield who held them at arms length all afternoon were seldom less than comfortable.

Their best chance of a consolation goal came from another Tumelty free kick. Which was met by the head of Raison but his effort lacked power and Constable made a relatively comfortable save tumbling to his left.

That was pretty much that. Beaconsfield headed home to welcome Tiverton to Holloways Park next Saturday when they will hope to extend their recent good run of form.
